CAPILLARY PUMP

A tree doesn’t come up with a pump however it can convey water from roots to leaves.
This phenomenon is possible by capillarity and thanks to natural evaporation of the leaves that pump sap from bottom to top of the tree.

Applications

In architecture, Danish designer Konrad Wojcik was inspired from the functionality and the structure of a tree for his project Primeval Symbiosis . “Studying its nature allowed me to come up with ideas and solutions to create a completely autonomous building”, he explains. The ultimate goal for this idea is to create a community of houses in natural landscapes, while avoiding mass deforestation and a carbone footprint as much as possible to zero.
