Without ink or pigment, the butterfly wings are coloured. A clever structure plays with the reflection of light to change colour according to the butterfly needs: protect from predators or charm.

Applications



For the textile industry, through the iridescence phenomenon colours exist without pigments on the butteffly wings. Many research are being undertake to reduce the impact of pigments in the textile industry.


In the electronic industry, and specifically for smartphone and tablet screens, the buttefly wings inspired a company that comercialize very low energy screens.


In the construction industry, the butterfly wings can help to maximize the harnessing of sun light for solar panels but also to clean the surface of panels and minimize maintenance costs.
