Some shark skins have anti-viral capacities thanks to a substance that make cells less accessible to viruses. Consequently, it always stays clean and inspired buoy paints avoiding subsenquent maintenance costs.
Applications
For performance, shark skin enables water to flow into micro-channels of the animals. By flowing along the body, water create micro-vortex that give pushing force. Speedo company created swimsuits for professionals but not only since some ships have used this system for their hull and also some planes as for the Airbus A320.
In the energy sector, the Australian company Biopower systems tests a tidal turbine with the shape of a fin and imitating its movement, in order to produce renewable energy.
