SOUND REDUCTION

Strias on the fins of the humpback whale currently inspire research for sound reduction of windmills and increasing energy gain.

Applications

In the field of energy, engineers of Whalepower reproduce the shape of the whale fins to improve not only the windmill blades (the increase the balance of the system and harness more wind energy), but also fans and turbines…

Not only the ergonomy of the whale fins inspire many research to improve energy flow but their fishing technique is only very smart. The whale makes a circle of bubbles to create a whirpool that prevent the fish from escaping. The whale can then cross the whirpool and collect the trapped fish.
