TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Zebras have black stripes that absorb the light and white stripes that reflect the light. The air is circulating between hot and cool parts causing convection currents, refreshing the animal.
Applications
In the energy sector, this natural air conditioning system alloys large energy savings specially in countries like Japan or India that extensively use air conditioning.
A lot of British and US ships have been painted in zebra-like patterns. As with the zebra stripes, the dazzle camouflage makes it difficult for the enemy to evaluate size, type, speed and direction of the ship, which makes it even more difficult to shoot with a torpedo.
This principe has been applied on the Daiwa House in Sendai, Japan. It uses different paints to circulate air around the building and save energy.
